Just the other day at the office we got into a big brain storming session on how we were going mark our 5 year anniversary in 2007. 5 years of continuously gathering and elaborating on the practical and indispensable information you need to make the best of your journey in and around Central Asia has not always been the easiest of jobs but it is definitely a passionate one and we will strive to give you a good view of what tourism is in this region through Discovery Central Asia.
And not only one view for that. We will get you the broad view, a closer view, the birds eye view and with this issue we have stepped up our efforts to give you the personal view on Central Asia, no ours, that is, but the view of experienced travellers or the view of those who have spent such considerable time here that they can give you the insider's view. Their tales feature in our "My Travel" sections.
The notion of a closer view is reflected in the new style of our cover. Being driven around Tashkent, Bukhara, Almaty and even in certain areas in the country side, I note a rampant desire to bring in the new and shiny. A desire not shared by me. The words smooth, sleek, clean-cut have never been part of the descriptive vocabulary of Central Asia. Aren't we, who travel here, actually not rather in search of the textured, the grainy, burly, weather worn, scraped off? I want to bring this yearning across on our cover page in the hope to give urban development decision makers food for thought. And for your information, sleek and clean cut at its best does actually apply to one area: many of the bathrooms I have seen recently at Boutique&Antique hotels.
So browse through these pages, the one or the other destination may catch your attention and you may want to get your own closer view. Travel Agents advertising in our pages can get you there and in all probability you will not be disappointed, I vouch for that.
Sincerely
