Heliskiing in Uzbekistan

Definition: extreme type of mountain-skiing, whereby a group of skiers or snowboarders is taken by a helicopter to landing places on the most beautiful and inaccessible high altitude peaks and ridges from where the skiers begin their breath-taking free ride through deep virgin snow, intoxicated by the beauty of the mountains and charged with an fantastic adrenalin rush. The USA, Canada, Alaska, Chile, New Zealand, Kamchatka, the Caucasus are trendy international destinations for those seeking the extraordinary, the exclusive experience of heliskiing

Seventeen years ago, Uzbekistan too for the first time welcomed heliskiing groups but only in the last couple of years as this sport attained the popularity it enjoys nowaday; for good reasons: the South-West Tien Shan mountains are second to none and taking into account stable weather conditions, even superior to other world heliskiing centers. In Uzbekistan the season starts mid January and usually the last runs are towards the end of March or beginning of April. Skiers are set down at an altitude of 3000 to 4300 m; the amplitude of descents is as wide as 2km with the length of a run up to 10 kms. Helicopters of the type MI-8 MTB takes aboard up to 15 passengers with their equipment. Two instructors accompany the group. Touch down points in an area comprising Chimgan, Bildersoy, and the Pskem and Chatkal ridges are no further than 100-200 km from Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan

Those taking part in this ultimate heliskiing adventure are usually accommodated in the modern Pyramids Resort on the shores of a picturesque man made lake, with the heli pad close by. Even when weather conditions do not permit take off, the group is being chauffeured to the slopes and chairlifts of Chimgan and Bildersoy, two resorts but a short drive away
Sightseeing tours to Tashkent and a night out and about, enjoying Tashkent's fine bar, restaurant and disco scene, contribute much to the fun spirit of the group.
And next season, the powdery white snow on the virginal mountain slopes of Uzbeksitan awaits you too for an unforgettable heliskiing trip
