Seventeen years ago, Uzbekistan too for the first time welcomed heliskiing groups but only in the last couple of years as this sport attained the popularity it enjoys nowaday; for good reasons: the South-West Tien Shan mountains are second to none and taking into account stable weather conditions, even superior to other world heliskiing centers. In Uzbekistan the season starts mid January and usually the last runs are towards the end of March or beginning of April. Skiers are set down at an altitude of 3000 to 4300 m; the amplitude of descents is as wide as 2km with the length of a run up to 10 kms. Helicopters of the type MI-8 MTB takes aboard up to 15 passengers with their equipment. Two instructors accompany the group.
