Belasia is a non-profit organization founded in 1992. Its aim is to promote social, cultural and economic understanding with Asian countries and their inhabitants. One of its social highlights is the annual Asia Fair.
The Asia Fair, initially named 'Aziemarkt1 was launched in February 1993 in the town hall of Merchtem in Belgium. The fair opened with 25 countries participating, and has grown annually to 85 participants in 2002.
Due to the fairs' expansion, new premises were located at the Zandloper Community Centre in Wemmer near Brussels. Countries promote comprehensive cultural programmes, shows, slides and up to date videos covering a wide information base.
Hosting countries have included Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Nepal. In addition to the participants, a selected group of tour operators are invited to attend.
Uzbekistan will host the 11 th Asia Fair 2003 in Belgium, on Saturday 1 st and Sunday 2 nd March 2003 at the Zandloper Community Center, Wemmer, near Brussels.
