For the very same reason when on business or holiday abroad, act wisely, don't let your actions allow you to fall prey to violence. Before you leave home

The closer you travel to rural areas, the less skin you will see, therefore leave your minuscule lacy blouses and brief shorts at home.
Local men always wear long trousers.
Keep a light scarf in your bag, to cover your shoulders if requested to, whilst visiting a holy site.
Photography
Always ask before taking photographs of people.
Refrain from taking photos of police.
Photography in the Metro in Uzbekistan is forbidden, but hotels do sell beautiful postcards of the metro. Public transport
Keep a metro map handy if traveling in Uzbekistan.
If using a taxi, ask the concierge to hail one for you.
Write down where you are going, then show the driver, as it is unlikely he speaks English.
Confirm price before getting into a taxi.
Always sit in the back seat.
Advise your hotel where you are going.
Use local currency.
What to keep in your back pocket
Copy of your passport.
Hotel business card with telephone number.
AND....
Change your traveler's checks, or dollars in the hotel.
Do not be tempted to change money in the bazaar. Don't drink tap water, rather carry bottled water.
Watch a local. They carry their belongings in an advertised plastic packet.
