Nature. You can find paradise up the Chimgan way

SEVARA NAZARHANThe sun is already shining brightly everywhere throughout Uzbekistan but in places the peaks of the mountains have kept their fresh white snow. Mountainous region of Chimgan is located 110-120 km from Tashkent. This picturesque place is worth seeing for those who want to feel the harmony of merging with nature, to withdraw from reality and think of one's own place in life. It is for this reason that tourists like Chimgan so much. It is very beautiful here in any season. It is like a kaleidoscope of picturesque landscapes, one is more beautiful than the other. The bubbling mountainstreams, the lull of the warbling birds and the dark-green slopes of the majestic mountains fascinate people in the summer. The air is so clean and fresh that it simply leaves you drunk.

Arrangements can be made for activities such as rock-climbing and mountaineering. Tourist trips are frequently organized to visit the picturesque places in Chimgan.

Those who want to admire the beauty of the mountains can stay at the "Chimgan" Tourist Centre, which consists of a 9-storey hotel with restaurants, saunas, discos, billiards, bars and a tennis court.

The cost of one apartment: in the hotel is $10-25 per day, a small house for four persons is $50 a day. The fixed-route taxi fare from Tashkent to Gazalkent is $2, while the normal metered taxi fare is $30.

Behind Chimgan is the Pulathan peak, 3000 meters above sea level, it looks as if it has been cut off the mountains, leaving a cave inside. Over time, many caves have been formed by the water that accumulates there. According to legend, in one of these caves the treasures of Alexander the Gread are hidden. The story goes that the beloved concubine of the general fell in love with one of her guardians.Alexsander the Great noticed the love that flared up between these two young people but didn't chastise them. The wise ruler let the beautiful concubine, and her lover live in that cave together with their retinue and treasures. To this day, treasure-lovers are still hoping to find this treasure. One can climb this mountain only from the eastern side, it is inaccessible from the other sides.
