Events. 9 Little Discoveries
If you find it difficult to find places where you can listen to good music, enjoy art, delve into history or just generally have a good time let us take some lime-out to think about what is available. Plunge into the heart of Tashkent and you'll have a chance to satisfy your craving for art. We are able to give you only a fraction of what Uzbekistan has to offer in terms of exhibitions, trade fairs and events in Uzbekistan. The following museums and galleries organize events on a regular basis, call them for a schedule or check out their websites.

1. Uzbekistan Don't miss the presentation of wall painting and easel painting exhibition that will take place in September at the time of opening of 2002-2003 year theatre season. Best pieces done by painters Vladimir Skripnik and Vladimir Elizarov will be displayed there.

2. Uzbekistan At the end of September Russian Drama Theatre opens its 68th stage season. If you are an inveterate play-goers, if your business life seems boring to you then in this theatre you can meet your favorite authors: Karlo Galdoni, Gogol, Michael Zadornov, Victor Mereshko, Albert Gerai and Alisher Navoi. In a cosy bar you'll be treated with various alcohol and cold drinks, cakes (at SI). The performances begin at 6.30 p.m., on weekends at 5 p.m. Ticket price is $ I.5. You can get there by metro ("Mustakillik" station) exit to "Zarafshan" restaurant, near supermarket "Demir".

3. Kazakhstan The right bank of Ile river is well known for its picturesque landscape. Here one can see sand mountains - Big and Small Kalkans containing shallow quartzite (its height is more than 120 m., Length - 4 km.). The phenomenon lies in the fact that sands melody. Besides, sand dune doesn't move about the plain despite strong winds and quick sand. But remains on its place for thousand years. Route extent - 200 km (on territory of national park "Altyn-Emel"). Duration - 14 hours.

4. Uzbekistan The group was founded in 1993 in Samarkand. Dolls embody poetic allegory of oriental poetry. They are made of ceramics and silk and colored by hand. They can be found in the collections of many countries in the world. One can see and buy these dolls in "Rukhabad" Handicraft Center located between complex "Gur-Emir" and "Afrosiab" hotel. 5. Uzbekistan We all had favorite toys when we were small. But what can be more splendid than alive friend? Not every one can afford to have monkey or camel at home. And have you ever seen live camel? Touched its desert-color skin? Looked into its kind eyes covered with long eyelashes? Camel is an eternal desert pilgrim bringing himself to find something common with the wind, sand and the people. Smooth movements, figure, its head highly raised and amazingly mild character, and besides, its hump letting the camel make do without water and food for a long time- and here's a hero of many tales and legends thought up during exhausting passages from one oasis to another one. Give pleasure to yourself and your children and keep your eyes on this amazing animal in Tashkent Zoo, open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entrance fee is 400 sums. 6. Uzbekistan You have a chance to become a real witness of photo exhibition "Beauty in nature and in us" that soon will take place. Here you can overlook at the beautiful and diverse world of nature and people of Uzbekistan and get acquainted with creative works of photographs Aksyonov A. and Kanaki S.

7. Kazakhstan When you for the first time find yourself in the theatre where plays by familiar authors are staged but in absolutely unknown language amazing things begin taking place. "Caucasian chalk circle" by Bertold Brekht, staged by producer Ergali Urazymbetov in Southern-Kazakhstan regional music-drama theatre named after Jumanat Shanin, will let not only heart rest because of cosy armchairs but your soul too. Murmuring Kazakh language, graceful gestures of Kupiya Rakhimberdieva, familiar events and slight imperceptible smell of theatre decorations you can afford it being in Chimkent for the ticket price is $1, plays begin at 6 p.m. and theatre is located in the heart of the town.

8. Uzbekistan An unusual project of Russian Drama Theatre in Tashkent will give you a great chance to feel the passions of people from East. Shah Bakhram was at the mercy of three passions hunting, music and wine. He is falling in love with Chinese woman Dilaram charming beauty, magical voice, fascinating play the chenga captivated the Shah. One day during the hunting the beauty spoke slightingly of Shah's accuracy. Flying into a rage Bakhram orders to tire her up and leave in an uninhabited desert. Next day after coming to his senses the Shah. repents of what has been done. He returns to the desert but the beauty disappeared... Want to know what is on then? See the performance "Mystery of Chinese woman" staged by producer Oblyakuli Khodjaguli after the poem "Seven planets" by A. Navoi. Olga Volodina and Ivan Nenashev take the part of main characters.

9. Uzbekistan You can feast your eyes upon perfect shapes of delicate patterns on metal chasing and watch chasers working wonders before your eyes having visited Bukharan Artisan Development Center. Take our advice and get acquainted with Islom Musinov who comes of a family of metal chasers. At the age 11, Islom Musinov began studying metal chasing under his great-uncle Salimjon Hamidov, a famous Bukharan master. This 5th generation metal chaser now passes his 20 years experience on to many apprentices, including his nephews. A member of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, he has shown his work in Germany, Pakistan, and throughout Central Asia. His works are currently displayed in museums in Paris and London.
